Cashew Nut - the real money ritual

Today, major production of cashews occurs in Vietnam, Nigeria, India and Ivory Coast. Cashew nuts are produced in tropical countries because the tree is frost sensitive, adapting to various climatic regions between the latitudes of 25°N and 25°S

In 2013, the world total for production of cashew nuts (in shells) was 4.4 million metric tons. Its cultivation in Nigeria made the country the top African exporter with about 950,000 metric tons.

The Shea butter industry in Nigeria is dominated by small scale with production capacity of less than 0.1 tons per day. The production plants are usually found in south western part of Nigeria, where there is a large market for the product.

Nutrition

In a 100 gram serving, raw cashews provide 553 calories, 67% of the Daily Value (DV) in total fats, 36% DV of protein, 13% DV of dietary fiber and 11% DV of carbohydrates (table).[17] Cashews are rich sources (> 19% DV) of dietary minerals, including particularly copper, manganese, phosphorus and magnesium (79-110% DV), and of thiamin, vitamin B6 and vitamin K (32-37% DV) (table).[17] Iron, potassium, zinc and selenium are present in significant content (14-61% DV) (table).[17] Cashews (100 grams, raw) contain 113 mg of beta-sitosterol.

Uses

Cashew nut is basically use for cooking oil - a dark yellow oil for cooking or salad dressing pressed from cashew nuts. At the same time its fleshy part - cashew apple can be eaten fresh, cooked in curries, or fermented into vinegar, as well as an alcoholic drink.

Shea butter is mainly used in the cosmetics industry for skin- and hair-related products (lip gloss, skin moisturizer, creams and emulsions, and hair conditioners for dry and brittle hair). Shea butter is edible and is used in food preparation in Africa. Occasionally, the chocolate industry uses shea butter mixed with other oils as a substitute for cocoa butter, although the taste is noticeably different. Shea butter melts at body temperature. Proponents of its use for skin care maintain that it absorbs rapidly into the skin, acts as a "refatting" agent, and has good water-binding properties. Shea butter melts at body temperature.
